Nuxhall misses out on Frick award

By Staff and wire reports

For the fourth straight year, former Reds broadcaster and Cincinnati icon Joe Nuxhall came up short for the 2010 Ford C. Frick award.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Jon Miller, who has spent parts of five decades as the voice of five major league baseball teams, was selected Monday, Feb. 1, as the 2010 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award.

Once again Joe Nuxhall, a Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer and a longtime broadcaster for the club, missed out on the award after being voted in by fans as a finalist for the third straight year.

The Ol’ Left-hander, a Hamilton native and longtime Fairfield resident, also was a finalist in 2004.

Nuxhall was 135-game winner during 16 major league seasons spent mostly with the Reds. He died in 2007.

Nuxhall’s longtime radio partner, Marty Brennaman, won the award in 2000.

Miller, who also has been the voice of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecasts for 20 years, also worked in San Francisco, Baltimore, Boston, Texas and Oakland. He will be honored during Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in July.
