CINCINNATI — Third baseman Chris Sabo and pitchers Pedro Borbon and the late Tony Mullane have been selected by fans and the Veterans Committee into the Reds Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
Sabo was the choice in fan voting that was announced Tuesday. The former All-Star and NL Rookie of the Year was a fixture on the 1990 team that won the Reds’ last World Series.
Borbon was chosen by a committee, along with Mullane, who was the Reds’ top pitcher from 1886 to 1892. Borbon was an important part of the Big Red Machine’s bullpen in the 1970s, appearing in more games than any other NL pitcher from 1970-78. The Reds won back-to-back World Series titles in 1975-76.
The trio will be honored next summer at Great American Ball Park. Sabo was selected by fans through the Modern Player Ballot sponsored by Cincyfavorites.com. Paul O’Neill was second to Sabo in fan voting, and John Franco was third.
That puts the Hall’s membership to 72 players, three managers and three executives.
