CINCINNATI — Former Bucs receiver Antonio Bryant has scheduled a visit with the Redskins, according to a report in the Tampa Tribune.
Bryant visited Cincinnati on Tuesday, but as the Tribune story points out, he’d be playing second-fiddle to Chad Ochocinco there. And the Bengals are looking at Terrell Owens, as well. It’s possible the Redskins could sell Bryant on the idea that he’d be the featured receiver in Washington.
Bryant, an eight-year veteran, would be interesting dynamic as the Redskins try to revamp their offense. He has twice topped 1,000 yards in his career.
Bryant set career-highs that season with 83 catches, 1,248 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, Bryant played in 13 games, catching 39 pases for 600 yards and four touchdowns. He had just one game of 100 yards or more last season.
ProFootballTalk.com floated the possibility that Bryant has scheduled his Washington visit simply to show the Bengals that he has other options.
NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi told NFL Network on Monday that the Bengals have had internal discussions about acquiring restricted free agent Brandon Marshall — but Bryant could be had for a fraction of that cost.
It’s clear the Bengals are giving their due diligence to the search, including dialogue with Terrell Owens. Handicapping the possibilities, Lombardi opined the most likely to land in Cincinnnati is Bryant, followed by Marshall and then Owens.
